Hackberry

(Celtis occidentalis)

Hackberry trees are an excellent large tree to consider as a disease-resistant replacement for a large ash tree. They grow well in urban landscapes due to their tolerance of heat, drought, short-term flooding, and road salt. The uniquely textured, corky bark of a hackberry tree provides year-round interest. They have good structure as they grow and are not susceptible to any major pests.
