Yellowood

(Cladrastis kentukea)

The Yellowwood boasts large, aromatic clusters of white flowers in spring, giving way to small, thin, brown pods. Specimens generally take 8-10 years to begin blooming. The smooth gray bark adds a striking contrast in the landscape, and the leaves turn a brilliant yellow in the fall. The yellowwood is tolerant of a wide variety of soils and has good tolerance to road salt. Its flowers are attractive to many pollinators and make it a great choice for a medium-sized focal point in your yard.
