Frontier Elm
(Ulmus minor x Ulmus parvifolia)
This hybrid elm has been bred to have high resistance to Dutch elm disease. Smaller than most other elms when mature, the Frontier™ elm is a good choice for spaces that wouldn’t accommodate a very large tree. It tolerates both wet and dry conditions and grows well in an urban environment. Like other elms, it benefits greatly from structural pruning when young to develop good form. Its leaves turn reddish in fall, and it produces very little seed, making it a good choice for sites where you want to minimize cleanup.
